Two months left till the election. “So let’s get to work,” Barack tells us. Okay, but what kind of work? The Connector presents a list of tasks — part-time, full-time, and real time — that you can take on between now and Election Day.
Vote on Day One — Find out here when your state allows early voting and beat the rush. Host an Early Voting party at the polls. Put your party on the map here.
Donate down ballot. Face it, Harris-Walz is swimming in money, $540 million and counting. Put your money where it can back them up by taking back the House and holding the Senate. Here are very close House races. For Senate, Montana Dem incumbent Jon Tester is in the fight of his life.
3. Use social media wisely. Post and repost upbeat messages about US, refuse to post or repost anything about HIM. He’s “not a serious person.”
4. Ask friends and family — Are you registered? When will you vote? (See #1)
5. Put up a yard sign — here’s where to get one.
6. Slap on a bumper sticker — here’s where to get two.
7. Wear a button or T-shirt — here’s where to get three.
8. Refuse to sing the “Orange Man Blues.” You know the chorus: ”Did you hear what HE said. . .” Stop whining about HIM. This is about WE, as in “the people.”
9. Read about the lives and policies of the people you’ll vote for and share their stories.
10. Laugh: “So keep fightin’ for freedom and justice, Beloveds, but don’t you forget to have fun doin’ it. Lord, let your laughter ring forth.” — Molly Ivins.
11. Listen to those who disagree with you. And listen some more. Then they might listen to you.
12. Call her “Harris” or “Ms. Harris” or “Vice-President Harris.” Studies show that calling a female candidate by her first name undercuts her strength.
13. Don’t fixate on the polls. This daily obsession of yours isn’t helping.
Remember — “America, hope is making a comeback.” — Michelle Obama
