We’re on the same wavelength. I made up cards with the paperclip resistance story on them. I’m thinking of making up cards with key Substacks on them, including the ones you mentioned. The more we can work together, the better for everyone 🙏

Excellent ideas!! I’ll do the same. My energy diminishes when folks tell me what’s wrong right now & they don’t want to get involved.

Thank you Susan. Bringing new people in and helping them find their place is key! As I stood with my wife in Boca Raton, FL on Saturday with my sign "Trump Puts Democracy on ICE" there were more than 300 of us at the protest, but 10 times that number honked their support as they drove by. Talk about people ready to be brought in to activism. Let's do it!

This reflects my experience too. I think the key is to provide people with a doable chunk they can participate in in the next couple of day. A few things I have run in to--some people I know are afraid to go out to public protests. Then, I would like to send them to meetings--however I notice if I don't accompany them they don't go--and I am more likely to participate in Zooms and those aren't themselves good recruiting venues. The other challenge is to not just get people to go once (which I have been able to do) but to get them to make this a regular part of their life. For that, I think they need to build part of their social life around it. So there is a social director part of it. For better or for worse, I feel like I have to highlight the fun part.

Thank you for speaking so truthfully to us, again! My local Indivisible organized something for every weekend this Month! (They did nothing since No Kings @... since when did Democracy take a vacation/holiday?????) I put up informational yard signs and prepared No ICE whistle kits during the downtime. I was on a pre-planned field trip with AV Boomers to Museum of Natural History this past weekend and found a life saving coffee at the South LA Cafe -- they were giving away FREE bright orange "ICE Whistles" with informational cards attached! I got one to share with my caregiver and left them a big tip because the vibe and the coffee were awesome!!!

Love this. I need to stop feeling resentful of those who applaud me and then do nothing and help them do something.

Thank you for all of this inspiration and information. Health issues have kept me somewhat sidelined from most of the in person protests although I have attended 2 and become a local election worker since Jan 2025. But I do have a plan that is partially in progress but will be finished soon, to create a series of fliers and book marks that I can stick into the books in those little free libraries, leave in public bathrooms (important for us older women to know where they are all located), and anywhere else I happen to be where I can put them for folks to find and pick up. I want to make them attractive and arty and useful. Your post provides me with lots of ways to do that. Thank you.

Love it Susan. I would love to see a copy of the card you are planning on handing out.

You are the enemy of democracy, the people voted, Trump won and you are fighting against it. You are trying to destroy democracy , not fighting to save it.
