Before heading to Chicago as part of the NY delegation, I had a mani pedi and of course, when asked “what color?” I chose blue. After a quizzical look ( I am usually a fan of light pink), I explained that I was headed to the 2024 Democratic Convention.
Sunday morning at LaGuardia waiting for my flight to Chicago, a woman held up her nails to mine and we had both chosen the same shade of blue—quite surprising since you wouldn't believe how many there were to choose from. After laughing about how hard it was to choose the right shade. she introduced herself. This is how I met Nancy Bass Wyden, the owner of the Strand, a well-known NY bookstore.
Nancy then turned to introduce me to her husband, Senator Ron Wyden from Oregon. After chatting about how we were all looking forward to the Convention, I mentioned the Thursday night Postcard/ Phone bank program Markers For Democracy and Postcards for Virginia (in conjunction with Simon Rosenberg and the Hopium Community) held for Janelle Bynum, running in Oregon’s 5th Congressional District. Senator Wyden was quite impressed with the program and asked me to thank all the volunteers on his behalf. Yay, volunteers! A fun start to a week that we expect will leave every participant inspired, whether they are watching from afar or attending in-person.
And, when I landed, well, take a look at these pictures. Chicago has planned a warm welcome, starting from the moment we land.
All this week, watch the Grassroots Connector for more from the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

Stunning speeches tonight from Michelle and Barack Obama. The energy and inspiration just keep building.
And Blue Nail Polish.... hmmm. Maybe we should all start wearing it, at least through November.
