On Monday, April 6, Virginia-based organizers kicked off nightly “Fight Back Vote YES” phone banks, a nationwide effort to mobilize Virginians to support the redistricting referendum. The phone banks, which will continue until the April 21 election, need lots of volunteers to make calls - every extra set of hands truly counts.
Virginia’s referendum responds to Trump’s push for red-state legislatures to gerrymander maps, giving Republicans an unfair advantage in the midterms. If approved by voters, Virginia will join California in temporarily redrawing districts to level the playing field, countering Texas’ early redistricting that favored the GOP. With the April 21 special election less than two weeks away, this is a high-energy sprint to turnout voters.
These nightly phone banks are featuring high-profile guest hosts and a volunteer-friendly program that makes it easy to contact voters when it matters most. And by building on the momentum of the No Kings 3 demonstrations, the phone banks will turn that energy into a win at the polls.
The guest lineup includes Simon Rosenberg, Rachel Bitecofer, Glenn Kirschner, Jessica Craven, Reed Galen and Virginia House of Delegates members Briana Sewell, Marcia (Cia) Price, Kathy Tran, and Jackie Glass. With more to be scheduled! (For updated dates and times: Vote Yes Phone Banks)
Time is short, and the stakes are high. This coordinated push is about connecting with voters, sharing accurate information, and ensuring that all eligible Virginians will make their voices heard on (or before, via early voting) April 21.
The nightly phone banks are an excellent opportunity for volunteers across the country to join a broader effort that has national implications for the midterms. Talking to voters is the best way to maximize voter turnout in the final days leading up to the election.
The “Vote YES” campaign has received public endorsements from prominent Democrats, including Barack Obama and Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger.
Voters are being urged to rely on verified, trusted sources of election information to combat the misinformation circulating around the referendum, specifically misleading mailers supported by major GOP donors, including MAGA supporter Peter Thiel.
This phone bank drive brings together a coalition of state and national groups, including Rural GroundGame, Virginians for Fair Elections, Network NOVA, and Virginia Grassroots Coalition. Together, they aim to reach voters across every region of Virginia.
It’s an ambitious undertaking but worth every phone call to protect our democracy and preserve the 2026 midterms. To sign up for one or all phone banks, go to Vote Yes Phone Banks.
