This episode of "It Needs to Be Said" hosted by Susan Wagner was a conversation with Ellen Bender, a co-founder of Markers For Democracy, a completely volunteer driven organization that started at a restaurant, Le Pain Quotidien, on the Upper Eastside of Manhattan and is now nationwide with six thousand members.
Ellen is an attorney by training and has been a community leader throughout her adult life. She learned to be an organizer from her stint as a law firm associate and her years as a PA volunteer and leader at her children's school.
Susan Wagner is also a co-founder of Markers For Democracy. Ellen and Susan are often called upon by candidates, pro-democracy organizations and other grassroots groups for guidance on campaign strategy, fundraising, and messaging. As women, they know how to find strength and power when institutional power is pitted against us. Markers For Democracy is known for its programming, hosting over 800 candidates, and raising over $700,00 through its States Project Giving Circle.
