Vote Forward has a campaign to send letters with information and applications to over 34,000 voters abroad. It's an exciting project. The only drawback is that international stamps are expensive (they were $1.55/each before the latest price hike) which makes it harder for some volunteers to afford.

I have found it fun and exciting writing to fellow citizens all over the world.

I heard that Vote Forward had a list of addresses. I wonder are there more and if not, what kind of legwork would be involved in getting more? Do you have any contacts at VF to ask?

I am aware of this campaign but I don't think it has been well designed and could potentially disenfranchise some of the people VF is trying to help. I would try instead other ways to increase overseas turnout, such as reaching out to all friends and family who might have relatives abroad, temporarily or permanently, and send them to votefromabroad.org, or if you have study abroad contacts, ask them to help their US citizen students who are going abroad this fall by sending them to students.votefromabroad.org now.

I do not have any contacts at Vote Forward. They sent out an email about the campaign to write letters to Americans living outside the country and I logged onto their website to get addresses. The original list seems to have been snapped up fairly quickly as there are no more available as of yesterday. It's a good question. I, personally, would be interested in writing more letters if addresses became available. I don't know where they get them. Sorry I can't help. Good luck, though.

We lose millions of votes every election because students, the military and ex-pats don't know they can sign up to vote from abroad. Please, if you know any living abroad in 2024, send them this article. It explains the process well. Be a voter!

I wrote Vote Forward letters for the "lab campaign" that is currently underway in conjunction with voters from Abroad. They have distributed all the names and addresses, but hopefully if the results come back statistically significant, it will become a regular campaign in future years.

On a seperate voting related topic: I recently came across a website that had downloadable QR codes that would take you to the voter registration portal for each state. This will give you a means to help people register to vote on the fly. An easy way to get young people registered is to ask them if they are registered to vote. If they answer No, ask if they are interested and pull up the QR code of the state you are in which you are living.

I have a sticker I bought in Etsy with a QR code that takes you to www.vote.org. I put it on the back of my phone, which serves the same purpose for getting people connected to the vote registration website. But you could use the downloadable QR code in your email signature or put it on your social media account.

This is an easy low effort form of activism. If enough of us practice it, we CAN increase voter registration.

Cheryl, these are great suggestions. I love the idea of putting a sticker on the back of your phone.

Thanks! I stumbled over it when I was searching for GOTV postcards on Etsy.

For anyone outside of the country, please send them to votefromabroad.org as this site is specifically designed to help abroad voters. Thanks!
