I have been routinely blocking these kinds of texts since they started- all of them, even people I actually support. Texts are down to almost nothing now. I've posted warnings on my forums about posts that are clearly scams or opportunistic. But I totally had it when I started getting pitches from candidates well in advance of their elections and WHILE we are trying to support candidates for still open seats! Some candidates have lost sight of what our priorities need to be. I've been a Dem activist for a long time, and the most common feedback I've gotten is that people only hear from the party when they want money. We have to change that if we want to be heard.

Amen sisters and brothers! I have typed STOP so many times every day for past few weeks. Makes me very pissy and hostile. Ask not for my money: ask yourself what YOU can do for ME!! As in grow a spine. Don’t sit back and hope the lawyers persuade SCOTUS. It is NOT biz as usual so quit acting like it is.

Thank you for this succinct summary. if I were on social media, I would post this to 50 senators and a bunch of reps too.

I agree! I advocated, fund raised, made phone calls, donated and voted for Kamala Harris. The most insulting thing since January has been receiving emails in her name asking for a donation to the DNC. I unsubscribed to the email and, when given the opportunity, stated that going with the 'same old' was not the way to deal with our present. Further, I noted how disappointing it is that Kamala is not out front LEADING with some serious action possibilities, and noted how I rely on all the alternative activists who are providing guidance and actions. Amen & huge thanks to them.

Thank you for this! I plan to share it with my state party chair here in Oregon, who is friends with Ken Martin.

David, a friend of mine who is in the legislature filled me in on party fund-raising requirements for legislators. Plum assignments go to people who raise the most money. So in addition to trying to do the people's work in a marginally functional legislature, legislators who want to be heard need to spend time pitching for funding for the Party. Oregon is now the only state without campaign financing reform (unless that's changed in the last year). The Republicans are even worse. The issue of texting is only a part of the problem in the state I was born and grew up in. The remarkable thing to me is that despite these obstacles, Oregon has accomplished some remarkable things in terms of social goods.

I am in Vermont now, and have nearly given up on Dems here. The Party had a strong agenda that was undermined by a Dem governor who undermined both the agenda and the party and is known as VT' most hated governor. State Dems responded by appointing a new director - whose first action was to send out an ask for funding, with no real agenda. Though we still hold both houses, we now have a Rep gov, whose only saving grace is that he is against Trump (but still a hard-nose gov with more vetoes under his belt than all his predecessors combined). My local committee failed to do anything but put on social events at the local ale house, and march in the July 4 parade. I gave up. I am currently acting as an independent involved in GOTV campaigns that could help us regain Congress. I don't do texts. I talk to people.

Thanks for filling us in, Annie. If you find county or state Dems doing anything worthwhile in VT, let us know. We'll write a story about it in The Connector as one strategy for celebrating and reinforcing the behavior we want to see.

I am so sick of the endless texts and emails from the Dems asking for money, especially the ones that ask me what I think as a hook to ask for a donation. I never give through these mass solicitations. I do give to candidates (and organizations) after I read an article on their work or see an interview that lets me know they are working for us.

I guess more of us have to act this way so that the senders get the message. This strategy won't work. It's like a kid having a tantrum. Adults can't give in or else ...

As a self-directed intelligent activist, I have the same reaction to spam texts as i do to any unwanted/unknown communication (email, phone, postal, embeded ads), FULL STOP NO!

I do make note of the sender, and refuse to buy, or support that entity, as their "jig" is up - done!

I give what I can to what I value and support directly. 💯

I hope this helps. And if there is a genuine need for funding, please state the date of the voting, and whether a primary or general election, and confirm that you are running as a democrat.
